Armenian PM hopes talks with Turkey will reopen their shared border

(MENAFN) Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday expressed optimism that ongoing positive dialogue with Türkiye could soon result in the reopening of their shared border.

Speaking at the 2025 Tbilisi Silk Road Forum in Georgia, Pashinyan said Yerevan is “ready, not only politically but also technically” to allow the transit of freight trucks between Türkiye and Azerbaijan through Armenian territory.

“The positive dialogue between Armenia and Türkiye gives hope that the parties may open the borders in the near future,” he said.

“We are ready, starting today, to ensure the transit of freight trucks through Armenian territory from Türkiye to Azerbaijan and from Azerbaijan to Türkiye."

Pashinyan added that Armenia is politically prepared to facilitate transit between Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan exclave and the main part of Azerbaijan, though technical readiness is still pending due to insufficient infrastructure.

He further noted that Armenia is ready to enable railway transit between Türkiye and Nakhchivan, as well as Türkiye and Azerbaijan, but the relevant rail lines require renovation or reconstruction. Pashinyan expressed confidence that these technical challenges “will be resolved within the next two to three years.”

The prime minister also outlined plans to build pipelines and power transmission lines across Armenian territory connecting Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, and Türkiye, alongside new road and rail links. “All of this is under discussion within the framework of the TRIPP project, and we are also holding relevant talks with Türkiye and Azerbaijan,” he said.

The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), also referred to as the Zangezur corridor, is a US-brokered connectivity initiative launched under the Armenian-Azerbaijani joint declaration signed in Washington, D.C., this August. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described the project as a “geo-economic revolution.”
